We respectfully acknowledge that the land we gather on is on the Unceded Traditional Territory of the K’ómoks First Nation, the traditional keepers of this land.
We respectfully acknowledge that indigenous peoples around the world have cared for, maintained and developed the foods we eat today, for tens of thousands of years.
The seeds we grow and steward here at Good Earth Farms would not have been possible without the prior planting, growing and harvesting of generation after generation of indigenous seed keeper.
In indigenous culture, seed keeping was the responsibility of women, hence the term Rematriaion.
Similar to the act of repatriation, rematriation is the term used for returning seeds to the people and place of their origin.
We are committed to telling the seeds story as we learn them, to give back to first nations communities as an act of reconciliation, and to acknowledge and return seeds to their ancestral places and peoples.
We see ourselves as stewards of the seeds we grow, not keepers, with a responsibility to reestablish relationships, foster food security and seed sovereignty in our community and beyond. We are proud to support First Nations led projects like Tea Creek and their model for indigenous food sovereignty and trades training.
